Fun with “decoding” craigslist roommate ads

Any scamminator could tell you the most common code words found on craigslist ads. Hunting for such words isn’t that easy as they are “nicely worded”. For someone who has been a roommate, it comes quite handy. Decoding craigslist ads is fun, actually:

“I’m looking for a ‘respectfulroommate, who is also responsible!’”

Baggage-hidden: If “respectful” is put in a layman’s tongue, then you’ve to get it, “don’t steal my clothes, don’t steal my food…!” It goes on and on, but the code word respect means just one thing, i.e, “Don’t steal”.

“Looking for a roommate who ‘doesn’t bring the party home’

Baggage-hidden: Nothing to beat about the bush. You can’t bring on your friends for a “sleepover”. No head bangers that will sow the seeds of using “SimplyNoise”.

“I’m looking out for an ‘employed’ and responsible roommate!”

Baggage-hidden:  “The one who always leaves on time”. Doesn’t matter what time he gets back to his place!

Not needed to say more! It’s the one, who will pay his share of rent regularly.

“I’m looking for a ‘young professional’ roommate, who can be a nice person too!”

Baggage-hidden: Arghh…this is quite tricky. A 40+ seeking roommate would never go with this.  Clear cut code word used in craigslist ads under the context of “Only sophomores or a grad, not these 40+!”

Code words found on craigslist ad serves one purpose - It won’t go awfully in vain, when you “interview” someone to find out if they fit in as a “nice roommate”.
